Admissions Requirements & Procedures for Home Educated Students
Admissions Deadlines: Mitchell College’s Admissions Office operates on a rolling admission basis. There is no set application deadline. However, priority is granted to those applications completed prior to March 1st.
Students seeking campus housing, financial aid and/or Learning Resource Center (LRC) support should apply early (before April 1st) as these resources are limited and may no longer be available to late applicants.
Early Decision: Mitchell College offers an Early Decision option for its applicants. The decision is binding. Once accepted to Mitchell College, it is expected in good faith that the applicant will not apply to other colleges or universities, and will withdraw all applications already submitted.
The Early Decision deadline is November 15th for the following fall semester. All documents must be received by Admissions by November 15th. Incomplete applications after November 15th will be denied Early Decision status. There is no Early Decision option for students seeking a spring semester entrance.

The College will grant credit for AP exam grades of 3, 4 or 5 in any of the above subject areas. Students may earn Mitchell College credit as well as advanced placement. For more information on the various AP exams, visit their website: www.collegeboard.com.
Home educated students interested in taking one or more of the AP exams may contact the high school guidance office in their district. The guidance office/AP Administrator should be able to share when the individual AP exams will be held in the spring, and the procedures necessary to take the exam at the high school.
Another option: some states now offer AP courses formatted for independent study and online exams.
Credit for Non-Traditional Learning:
Mitchell recognizes that many students come to the College with a variety of college level learning experiences that occurred outside the traditional classroom. Credit for formal courses taken outside the classroom and university setting are evaluated following the American Council on Education College Credit Recommendation Service, the National Program on Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction, and the Connecticut Credit Assessment Program sponsored by Charter Oak State College. Consult the Registrar’s Office for additional information.
Credit by Examination:
Credit by Examination allows students who have already studied the subject matter of a course offered at Mitchell to earn credit by passing an examination which covers the course material. The College accepts credit by examination following the guidelines of the American Council on Education College Credit Recommendation Service. Examples are the College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Support (DANTES). Each test result is evaluated by the Registrar’s Office.
